With over 200 projects to choose from, 4-H truly does have something for everyone. Listed below are descriptions of projects that have math, science or engineering components.

  • Aerospace Science
    • Study the science of Rocketry through a variety of hands-on experiments for all ages. Instruction is available for 2-liter bottle rockets and Estes-type rockets.
  • ATV
    • It emphasizes safe operation, proper safety attire, “fitting” and ATV to the rider, maintenance of the machine and mechanical features of an ATV. This project is appropriate for all ages and experience levels.
  • Computers
  • Electricity
    • Investigate the difference between series and parallel circuits as you build you own switches and learn to solder strong connections.
    • Test for grounding, trace the circuitry and calculate circuit load on the electrical outlets in your home.
    • Learn the difference between a resistor and a capacitor and then build your own intruder alarm.
  • Lawn Care
    • Learn the science behind seeding, weeding, fertilizing and mowing your lawn.
  • Money Management
    • Apply your math skills to help you balance a budget and investigate many other financial matters in your life.
  • Nutrition
    • Sharpen your math skills by calculating cost per serving, percent fat in meats, calories per serving, recipes adjustments and much more. Of course, with the added benefit of learning how to prepare tasty dishes for you and your family.
  • Radio Controlled Vehicles
    • Be your own pit crew and driver by researching, purchasing, assembling, or modifying (battery operated) radio controlled cars.
  • Rope
    • Learn how to make many kinds of knots, hitches and splices.
  • Small Engines
    • Learn about basic small engine parts, tools of the trade, and safety. You’ll have fun discovering how engines work.
    • Learn different engine types and sizes, internal parts, specialized tools, compression, seasoning your engine, and starting your own business.
  • Tractor and Machinery Operation
    • Youth will learn parts of a tractor, tractor maintenance, different fuels, engine cooling systems, safety with augers and much more.
    • Learn more about tractors maintenance, mechanics of the engine, and functions of operational systems.
  • Welding
    • Learn about safety, selection of equipment and materials, and fabricating techniques with shielded metal arc welding.
    • Basic welding skills will be developed to allow members the opportunity to build, modify and repair steel-based projects.
  • Woodworking
    • Learn all about the equipment and skills necessary to become an excellent woodworker.
    • Practice your math skills while drawing up the designs for your woodworking masterpieces.
